Impetuous Thoughts

Anyvay, I had my Apparel 1 and Life Drawing 2 classes today. My Apparel teacher is soooo sweet, she already calls everyone “sweetie” and gives us inspirational speeches! Today she used a quote which she attributed to Queen Elizabeth on how to face a problem:

“You have three options. You can run, you can hide, or you can fight. You know which you must choose”

Anyway, lots of inspiring, but also warnings. If you are not ready to work your ass off, GTFO. We also picked dress forms today. I named mine Wendy, she is a size 8 from 1998. Every few years there is an organization that takes a census of the average size of American women and adjusts the sizes of the dress forms according to that census. Interestingly, the size 8 2002 dress forms are about an inch wider all around than my 1998 one. Stop getting fatter everyone!

Anyway, Life Drawing 2 is going to be a lot of fun. We are doing a lot of different projects and it is all focused around experimentation and developing your own artistic voice. I am going to be able to work my fashion illustration into this class, so I am really excited for that! I have to draw a 6ft tall human figure, to scale. Imagine me walking around with a 6ft tall board! Agghhh, not looking forward to that one!

For tonight, I will watch What Not to Wear and prepare for tomorrow.

Had my first spring quarter class today.

It was creative thinking strategies, which is a weird sounding class, but I am actually excited for it. My professor explained that almost every business school will have a class like this, but almost no design schools do. It is actually very important to have different methods for creating new ideas, especially if you are feeling an artists/writers block coming on. We are going to be doing readings on psychology, advertisement strategies, social sciences, different business models, etc.

About half the class is in fashion design, many of them juniors/seniors. I am excited to finally get to talk to some upper level fashion students, they have already been giving me advice! They will be a good resource when I am pulling out my hair in Apparel 1.

Tomorrow will be the really scary day, with Apparel 1 and Life Drawing 2. Getting together my little sewing basket and a portfolio of life drawings to show to my professor tomorrow! Organizing, making a huge ass mess on my floor.

Been up drinking since 9am.

Walked about five miles around Savannah drinking beer in the streets in a bikini, jean shorts, and beer mug hat. Been hot and sunny.

Taking a dinner break. Taking a shower. Then going out for more.

Thats right, its spring break and I am so happy! What I love about Savannah is that there is no need to leave. I got warm weather, the beach, and a giant city-wide party all right where I need it.

The weather forecast? An average of 76 degrees for the next ten days. Sunny and beautiful. Guess who is gonna get her tan on?

I still don’t understand why NONE OF MY FRIENDS have ever come to visit this amazing city. It is awesome. Have fun shoveling snow.

I was thinking of making a paper doll series to sell on Etsy. I started drawing last night while I was hanging out with the interior design majors (finals week ahhhh!). Anyway, the idea would be to have them be high fashion paper dolls with really current clothes that you could put on them. It would be a cute gift for little girls who are into fashion or fun for grown ups too! What do you all think? What kind of outfits would you want on your paper doll?

I was thinking of selling a set with a doll and ten outfits for $15. You would get the file to print out and cut out yourself. I was thinking of coloring them myself, though I guess it would be more fun if you colored the clothes yourself, right?
