So if anyone is curious about my internship, here is a little about the designer. I am meeting her tomorrow to discuss details on my internship. Her name is Lisa Vian Hunter, she was on the show “Fashion Star” last year, and has participated in a lot of fashion weeks, like in Austin and Bellevue. She has a vintage inspired style, but incorporates the vintage looks to modern silhouettes. I believe she graduated from FIT in 2006, and started out doing custom clothing before she opened her boutique. I am so super excited to learn from her!

So in case any one has been wondering what I was up to the past week, it was this. Yup, I just drove from Savannah, GA to Seattle, WA in my tiny Honda Civic Coupe. Anyway, now that I am getting settled back home, I am starting my internship with a local fashion designer. More on that later after I meet with her this week!

I love how the one girl says she painted it to look like herself because she was a fashion designer. Obviously all fashion designers are obsessed with themselves right?

I mean designers only spend 99% of their lives designing clothes for other people, so that means they are obsessed with themselves, right? I hate how some people view fashion designers. We design clothes for clients. It is a client based business.

Just applied to H&M for a design assistant job. Along with about 894 other people, according to LinkedIn. So much competition!

For those of you who have been following my path to completing a degree in fashion design….well now you get to see the aftermath. I have to line a jacket, and put straps on a tank top, and then I am completely done with my senior collection. So surreal. But, I cant find a photographer to shoot anything, as it is finals week. I graduate on June 1st.

So this blog is about to become a post-graduate, job searching, quarter-life crises, questioning all my decisions leading up until now type of blog.

Sooo I didnt get into the fashion show.

I know people who were better than me who didnt get in, and people who were worse that did get in. 24 of 85 people got in. So it is kind of a cluster fuck of who knows what. So now I need to find a fashion photographer to shoot my garments at least.

Hopefully for the last time, I re-drew my lineup. This reflects all the last minute changes, including changing my jacket sleeves on look 4 from a knit fabric to a woven silk. I saw my garments walk in the jury show today! And interviewed with jury members which went well. We will be emailed the results of who gets to be in the fashion show tomorrow!

Welp they posted the results of the critique today instead of on monday like they said. Out of 85 seniors, only 8 were cut. They made it seem like a big deal and they would be cutting a lot of people for this. I made it, so I am super happy about that, but less happy than I thought Id be since it wasnt really huge deal. Whatever.

My goals for this week to prepare for Jury Show are:

Redo the sleeves of my jacket which shrunk and came out too dark for my liking from the dye bath.

Create examples of hangtags

Create garment labels (lazercutter!)

Create at least one line sheet

Organize portfolio to show

The jacket is missing from this picture on the farthest left model, but I will get better pictures some time. Trying to organize a photoshoot….but I find out Monday wether or not I got through the first cut into the Jury Show.

One day I will look back at this and sigh to myself, maybe chuckle a little bit, remembering life as an art student, dyeing fabric two days before a critique in the bathroom, barring my roommate from peeing for hours.

So this is my last outfit I am working on for this Fridays critique. I have the body of the jacket sewn up. I am still waiting on my knit fabric to arrive for the sleeves of the jacket and the dress underneath. The knit fabric must be dyed, so I figured out the colors I want to use. I feel like this is a nice palette. I am just worried about finishing and having a good product.
